Comedian Reggie Carroll Fatally Shot in Mississippi, Suspect Arrested

Baltimore comedian Reggie Carroll has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in Southaven, Mississippi. He was 52 years old.

Police were called to the scene of the shooting Wednesday, Aug. 20, the Southaven Police Department said in a news release.

Responding officers found a male victim on Burton Lane suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders attempted to save his life, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Police later identified the victim as Reginald Carroll of Maryland.

A male suspect named Tranell Marquise Williams, 38, was taken into custody and charged with the murder, police said in an update on Saturday.

“Our thoughts our with the family of Mr. Carroll. Thank you to the community for their patience and understanding,” read a statement from police. “Due to this being an active investigation, there is limited information to be released.”

Urban Hollywood 411 left a message for Southaven PD on Monday for additional information about the suspect, but did not immediately get a response.

Southaven is just outside Memphis, Tennessee.

Memphis news station WREG News Channel 3 reported the shooting happened in a residential area, at the corner of Burton Lane and Pollard Drive. The station aired video of police cars and a “crime scene unit” van parked outside a home.

Carroll appeared on the UPN sitcom The Parkers with Mo’Nique and Countess Vaughn in 2000, according to his IMDb page. 

More recently, he had been touring with Katt Williams and Mo’Nique and shared videos on his YouTube page.

Fans filled page with condolences. The Mobtown Comedy Club in Baltimore also remembered Carroll in a post on Instagram.

“Rest in power @comedianreggiecarroll, thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on,” the club wrote. “The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family.”
