CBS has addressed a viral report saying Gayle King will soon be sidelined from her position as lead anchor on CBS Mornings.

Variety is the latest outlet to report King will likely be leaving the program after David Ellison’s Skydance Media completed its $8 billion acquisition of CBS parent company, Paramount Global, on Aug. 7, 2025.

In an article published on Thursday, Oct. 30, the outlet reported King “is expected to depart” the show when her contract expires in May 2026.

Sources claimed King, 70, could be offered a “different role” at CBS and “potentially produce her own programming.”

As more and more outlets picked up the report, CBS issued a statement.

“There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026,” a spokesperson told People. “She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future.”

King has not publicly addressed reports that she will be ousted, but there’s been a steady stream of stories saying her days are numbered.

On Aug. 5, the New York Post reported King’s future at CBS is “murky.”

“CBS faces a growing dilemma over the future of mega-buck anchor Gayle King as ratings for her ‘woke’ morning show collapse — and the struggling network’s new owners vow to root out left-wing bias,” the outlet reported0.

Then on Aug. 27, RadarOnline published a story saying King’s career is “nearing its end,” because her “woke sensibilities” have “driven viewers away.”

The outlet claimed King is to blame for a 20 percent decline in ratings at CBS Mornings over the summer.

“Despite the steep decline, King pulls in a reported $13 million to $15 million a year under the terms of a fat new contract she signed in 2022, which runs through next May,” the outlet reported, adding, “sources said network execs are not likely to re-up her deal.”

King joined the show, which was previously called CBS This Morning, in November 2011.

According to published reports, the new leadership at CBS is more conversative and wants to move the network’s news coverage to the right.

This week, CBS cut about 100 staffers, including CBS Saturday Morning anchors Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, along with the show’s executive producer.

The network also disbanded its race and culture unit, which mostly affected female employees and people of color.

Trey Sherman, who was an associate producer on the now-canceled CBS Evening News Plus streaming show, alleged in an Instagram Story that racism is coming into play in the layoffs, spearheaded by newly-installed CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss.

“Every producer who was laid off on my team is a person of color. Every producer on my team who will be relocated within the company is white,” Sherman wrote in his Story that has since gone viral.

In a TikTok video, Sherman said “only the people of color” on his show lost their jobs. His headline on the video described the job cuts at CBS as “race-based.”
