It’s the end of the road for Starz crime drama BMF.

The series has been canceled after four seasons, Urban Hollywood 411 confirmed on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Created by Detroit native Randy Huggins, BMF told the story of siblings Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, who rose from the streets of Detroit in the 1980s to create the Black Mafia Family drug empire.

Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr. played his father alongside actor and singer Da’Vinchi as Terry Flenory. The main cast also included Russell Hornsby, Michole Briana White, Steve Harris, Laila Pruitt, and La La Anthony.

Sydney Mitchell, Kelly Hu, Myles Truitt, Kash Doll, Roberto Sanchez, Ren King, Christopher B. Duncan, Ajiona Alexus, Donnell Rawlings, and Eric Kofi Abrefa had recurring roles during the show’s run.

Atlanta strip club Platinum Palace also played a prominent part in the series. The last episode of season 4 titled “Dreams Deferred” aired on Friday, Aug. 15, and is now the series finale.

The episode centered on Meech and Terry returning to Atlanta, where a major shootout unfolded, leading to the deaths of BMF traitor B-Mickie (Myles Truitt) and deranged crack addict Lamar (Eric Kofi Abrefa).

The episode ended on a cliffhanger with Detective Bryant (Steve Harris) arresting Meech, but after the show’s cancellation, fans will never find out if Meech managed to wiggle out of trouble once again.

Starz tends to cancel shows after 3 or 4 seasons. Last year, the network pulled the plug after four seasons of fan favorite Power Book II: Ghost, starring Michael Rainey Jr.

The Power Book II: Ghost cancellation was announced in March 2024, days after Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsh told a Deutsche Bank media conference that shows become more expensive to produce with each season, making it difficult to “manage” costs.

“When seasons go from one to two to three to four, three to four is where the cost really pops because most of the actors get bigger raises, and you have to really manage that. So, you have to have in your portfolio of development shows that can actually replace shows as they get into later seasons,” Hirsh said as reported by Deadline.

More recently, BMF executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has been feuding with star Lil Meech on social media over the up-and-coming actor’s personal struggles, and his friendships with some of the hip-hop mogul’s rivals.

On Wednesday as news broke that the show had been canceled, 50 Cent posted a petty comment on Instagram mocking Lil Meech for losing his job.

BMF had a loyal following thanks to its gritty storylines and celebrity guest stars that included Mo’Nique, Michael Chiklis, Clifton Powell, Ne-Yo, Skai Jackson, Leslie Jones, Cynthia Bailey, and rappers Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, Saweetie, Lil Baby, and Yung Miami.

In an interview with Urban Hollywood 411 in 2024, showrunner Heather Zuhlke said 50 Cent often used his personal connections to book celebrity guests.

“There is no shortage of people who want to do the show, which is fantastic, and Fifty is very generous with his time and connections,” Zuhlke said.

Lil Meech told us some of the rappers featured on the show had personal connections with his dad.

“2 Chainz is actually my father’s friend. 2 Chainz was spending time with my father before he got incarcerated in Atlanta, so it’s crazy to be in a scene with him and work with him,” he said. “I got to work with Lil Baby, who’s a young legend in my culture. I got to work with a lot of new faces that I got to learn from. It was definitely fun.”
