Basketball Wives ventured into unfortunate new territory when Jackie Christie and her daughter Chantel Christie-Jeffries got into a physical altercation on Monday night’s episode.
Viewers are used to seeing shouting, drink-throwing and disputes, but nothing like what unfolded on the July 21 episode, when Chantel cursed at her mom and pushed her, sending Jackie over the edge.
The pair’s relationship has been strained for years. But tensions escalated once Chantel joined the season 12 cast of the VH1 reality series. Chantel befriended mean girls Brittany Renner and Denise Garcia, happily joining them as they insulted Jackie throughout the season.
During a group trip to Hawaii, tensions continued to escalate between Jackie and Chantel. On Monday’s episode, the two finally sat down to talk privately without the rest of the group. Instead of discussing their relationship, Chantel accused Jackie of gossiping about fellow cast member Brandi Maxiell.
“When we were in Vegas, did you not talk s–t to me about Brandi the whole time?” she asked her mom.
“Before we even start talking about these other broads, let’s talk about me and you,” Jackie responded.

Chantel cut Jackie off and refused to let her normally-outspoken mom get a word in. “You’ve been around me on three separate occasions and you walked away like a cowardly lion, every single time,” Chantel said.
Eventually, a frustrated Jackie got up to leave. That’s when Chantel went for the jugular by bringing up her father and Jackie’s husband, retired NBA star Doug Christie.
“That’s why your husband is gonna leave you and your kids don’t like you,” she yelled as Jackie walked away to diffuse the situation.
Jackie told her, “You sound silly. This is childish.”
Later in the episode, Chantel went to Jackie’s hotel room to talk, and immediately began to berate her mom.
“I came back up here to tell you that going forward, we won’t be going forward. We’re done,” Chantel said.
“That’s fine. The cameras don’t mean anything to me,” Jackie responded. “Prior to the cameras, we didn’t have these issues.”
Chantel disagreed. “I feel there’s a huge disconnect between Jackie the mother and Jackie the personality,” she said in a confessional interview.
As the situation deteriorated, Jackie said, “I want you to get up and leave my room.”
“I have zero respect for you,” Chantel shot back.
Chantel walked toward the door, but turned around and continued to insult her mom.
“You’re sitting here looking f–king stupid. Look how you look as a mother,” Chantel said.
Jackie got off the sofa and told her, “Get out of my room.”
At that point, Chantel pushed Jackie. By then, her mom was done.
“B—h, I’ll knock you out,” Jackie yelled as she took a swing at Chantel.
“You dumbass b—h,” Chantel yelled several times as she tried to hit Jackie with her purse. Security separated the two.
“You’re goofy as f–k!” Chantel yelled.
During a debrief with a producer, Jackie refused to discuss Chantel “in the least bit.”
Moments later, Jackie was heard speaking on the phone. “She came in my room, jumped in my face, pushed me and said, ‘You don’t love me.’ It’s a lie Dougie, she’s out of control,” Jackie said.
Chantel went and told the other women, “she swung on me,” prompting some of them to cry. Although Chantel left out the part where she pushed her mom first.
On Tuesday, VH1 posted video of the fight on Instagram. Viewers were disgusted by Chantel’s behavior. Some also criticized executive producer Shaunie Henderson for casting Chantel, knowing she had a strained relationship with her mom.
“This is the interaction Jackie has been avoiding this entire trip! Chantel begged for this reaction, now she’s playing the victim!” one viewer wrote in the comment section.
“I’ll always love Jackie! Chantel is unhinged. Don’t touch your mom,” another person added.
“All I know is Jackie has made so much growth,” someone else said.
“Why is she talking to her mom like she is talking to her lil friends and even cussing at her,” another person commented.
“Jackie wasn’t wrong for any of it,” someone else replied.
“Don’t bring Chantel back,” another viewer wrote.
“It utterly escapes my comprehension why Shaunie would deliberately cast Chantel — fully cognizant of the deeply strained relationship she shares with her mother — only to subject her to such public mortification on national television,” a viewer wrote. “The sheer insensitivity of it all is profoundly disheartening and emotionally distressing!!”
Basketball Wives airs Monday nights at 8/7c on VH1. The season 12 finale airs next week.
The video below is a clip from Monday’s episode. A warning, the footage may trigger some viewers. Above is an interview with Brandi Maxiell about the tensions this season.
