Nivea has revealed her leukemia is in remission.
During an interview on The Tamron Hall Show Wednesday, Oct. 7, the R&B singer shared that update on her treatment.
Nivea, 44, was joined by her oncologist, Dr. Colin Vale, as they discussed her chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) diagnosis.
The singer-songwriter told host Tamron Hall her doctor convinced her to enroll in a clinical trial. At first, the mother of four said she was reluctant, but eventually agreed to take part.
“It’s been an adjustment, like the symptoms. I’m tired a lot. I have other issues, bleeding, I found out I have fibroids. It’s a long little list, but I’m still on the better side than most. I’m not complaining,” Nivea said to applause. “I’m so grateful.”

According to the American Cancer Society, CML is a type of cancer that “starts in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow and invades the blood.”
Nivea’s doctor said an estimated 10,000 people are diagnosed with CML each year in the U.S.
In July, Nivea went public with her diagnosis on the “Cadillac Chronicles” podcast. As previously reported, she said she learned she had the illness earlier this year.
Later in the interview on Tamron Hall, Nivea said she was shocked when she found out the cancer had gone into remission so quickly.
“I couldn’t believe it because this happened to me this year, only a few months ago,” she said while fighting back tears. She credited God, her doctor and the clinical trial.
Born Nivea B. Hamilton, the Grammy-nominated singer scored a hit with “Don’t Mess with My Man” (2002), which peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her other singles include “Okay” (2004) and “Laundromat” (2003).
Nivea said she feels so blessed that her health is improving, she’s making major plans for the future. She hired a vocal coach and is working on new music with hopes of releasing an album before the year ends. She’s also been going to school to become an audio engineer.
The singer was married to music producer The-Dream from 2004 to 2008, and they share three children. She also has a son with legendary rapper Lil Wayne.
Near the end of the interview, Nivea told Hall both The-Dream and Lil Wayne like her show. But she said Weezy is a super fan. A surprised Hall laughed and welcomed the rapper to her fan club. “Lil Wayne is in the Tam fam!” she said.
