Chicago P.D. cast member LaRoyce Hawkins is exiting the police drama in the upcoming 14th season.

Hawkins has played Officer Kevin Atwater since the series debuted on NBC in 2014. But on July 2, Deadline reported the actor will wrap his storyline within the first three episodes of the new season.

The outlet cited sources close to the production. Although producer Wolf Entertainment declined comment. Hawkins has not made any public statements about his future on the show.

With the actor exiting the series, producers are said to be looking to add another Black actor to the cast, who will play an agent of chaos on season 14, which premieres in October.

Season 13 saw Atwater reconnect with his former flame, Officer Tasha Fox (Karen Obilom). After moving to Miami, Fox returned to Chicago to tell Atwater she was pregnant with his child.

News of Hawkins exiting the series comes one year after another Black cast member unexpectedly left the police drama. Toya Turner, who played Officer Kiana Cook, announced her sudden departure in June 2025, after one season.

“My time on Chicago P.D. has come to a close. This show challenged me, sharpened me, and revealed what I’m made of. I’ve evolved through this experience, both as an artist and in my craft, and I’m walking away with depth, clarity, and momentum for whatever comes next,” Turner shared in a statement on social media.

The actress did not say why she was leaving the NBC series. Although a month earlier she expressed excitement about returning to the set. She shared a post on Instagram celebrating the show’s renewal for a 13th season and said she would see viewers in the new season.

Before that, Tracy Spiridakos, who played Hailey Upton, left the series after season 11. Jesse Lee Soffer, who portrayed Upton’s partner and husband Jay Halstead, also left the show.

The series follows an elite intelligence unit in the Chicago Police Department as its members track down suspects and navigate challenges in their personal lives.

In May, NBC announced its entire Wednesday night “OneChicago” franchise had been renewed, including Chicago Med (8 p.m.), Chicago Fire (9 p.m.) and Chicago P.D. (10 p.m.).

Chicago P.D. season 14 premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 7, according to NBC.

The returning cast includes Jason Beghe as Sgt. Hank Voight, who leads the intelligence unit. Patrick John Flueger plays Officer Adam Ruzek and Marina Squerciati portrays Officer Kim Burgess.

Benjamin Levy Aguilar plays Dante Torres. Arienne Mandi portrays Eva Imani, and Amy Morton co-stars as desk Sgt. Trudy Platt.
