An attorney for Lil Tjay is denying reports the rapper shot fellow hip-hop star Offset at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
A gunman opened fire on Offset in the hotel’s valet area on Monday, April 6, local news station WSVN-TV reported.
Seminole police told the TV station the shooting unfolded after a fight broke out around 7 p.m.
A spokesperson for former Migos group member Offset said the rapper suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
“We can confirm Offset was shot and is currently at the hospital receiving medical care. He is stable and being closely monitored,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Page Six.
Lil Tjay, born Tione Jayden Merritt, was one of two people detained after the shooting, Seminole police said.
The 24-year-old rapper was charged with disorderly conduct and driving without a valid license, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office inmate records website. He was being held on $3,000 bond, with his release “pending,” the website said. The second person has so far not been charged.
Dawn M. Florio, Lil Tjay’s attorney, issued a press release this morning after viral internet reports alleged the rapper opened fire on Offset during a dispute over money and an alleged unpaid debt.
“We are issuing this release in regards to false rumors that Lil Tjay was involved in a shooting which occurred at the Valet Area of the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to Offset, formerly a member of Migos,” Florio said.
“Lil Tjay has not been shot, nor has Lil Tjay been charged with any shooting. Any reporting to the contrary is false. We encourage people to consult trusted news sources, and to verify the accuracy of any reporting, before reflexively sharing or repeating baseless rumors,” the attorney added.
Offset, born Kiari Cephus, 34, is the estranged husband of rapper Cardi B. The couple share three children and Offset has three other children from previous relationships.
Cardi B filed for divorce after six years of marriage in August 2024, saying the split had “been a long time coming.” She recently had a baby with on-off boyfriend, NFL star Stefon Diggs.
