After suffering a life-threatening illness, The Blind Side actor Quinton Aaron is “alert” and showing significant signs of improvement.

Quinton, 41, recently woke up after he suffered a spinal stroke last month and was placed on life support.

Spinal strokes happen when blood flow stops in the spinal cord, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Quinton’s brother Jarred shared a picture with TMZ on Wednesday, Feb. 18, showing the actor resting. He was still in the hospital and connected to several medical tubes, but his eyes were open and family members said he was in “great spirits.”

According to Jarred, the photo was taken last week.

The release of the picture came as Jarred filed a restraining order against Margarita Aaron, who weeks ago was widely reported as Quinton’s “wife.”

The actor’s health crisis began in January when he woke up one morning feeling sore, Margarita said. He thought the discomfort was caused by a bad night’s sleep. But the pain continued for a few days, then he collapsed while walking up the stairs at his home.

At the time, Margarita spoke on his behalf and continued to provide updates.

Then news emerged that she is allegedly married to another man, and Quinton’s brother Jarred took legal action against her.

Quinton told TMZ he approves of Jarred’s actions.

“I fully support my brother and thank him for protecting me and my family,” Quinton said.

After being questioned as to why she would call herself Quinton’s “wife,” Margarita told multiple media outlets the two were married “spiritually,” which Quinton’s family noted is not legally binding.

Quinton portrayed former NFL player Michael Oher in The Blind Side (2009), which told the story of how Oher went from homelessness to an All-American football player after a couple named Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy took him in.

The actor has since had roles in War Dawgz (2025), Experiment 77 (2025), Born 2 Hustle (2023) and other projects.

News of Quinton’s health crisis was first released on Jan. 26.

Margarita described herself as a registered nurse. She said she called 911 when he collapsed, and tended to him until first responders arrived.

While she identified herself as his “wife” to hospital staff, she has now been barred from seeing him after family members began to investigate her past.

On Feb. 3, Quinton’s family shared their concerns with Us Weekly.

“Since the health crisis of our beloved family member Quinton Aaron, we have raised some suspicions about the legitimacy of Quinton and Margarita’s marriage to each other, as well as her legitimacy as a registered nurse. We have found some alarming details,” they said in a statement.

The Aaron family alleged that Margarita “isn’t who she claimed to be,” and said she has been married to someone else “for 34 years.”

Margarita countered that she and Quinton “got spiritually married.”

According to published reports, Quinton is now only seeing approved visitors and Margarita is not on the list.
