Law enforcement is questioning a person of interest in connection with the disappearance of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie.
The unidentified person was taken into custody by deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department with assistance from the FBI, authorities announced late Tuesday, Feb. 10.
In a statement posted to social media, the sheriff’s department said deputies detained the “subject during a traffic stop south of Tucson.”
Several national media outlets reported law enforcement officers swarmed the individual’s vehicle near Rio Rico, Arizona, a small desert town just north of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Late Tuesday, ABC News reported sheriff’s deputies and members of the FBI’s Evidence Response Team were searching a property in Rio Rico, with the operation “expected to last several hours.”

News of these latest developments came just hours after the FBI released photos and videos of a masked suspect tampering with a doorbell camera at Guthrie’s home in the early morning hours of Feb. 1.
The video showed the armed individual walk up to the front door. The person placed a hand over the surveillance camera before grabbing shrubbery from the yard and placing it over the camera.
“Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners… to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors – including the removal of recording devices,” FBI Director Kash Patel wrote Tuesday on the X platform.

The individual was wearing pants, a jacket, gloves, a mask, sneakers and a backpack in the black-and-white pictures and videos. The person had a weapon secured to their waist.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on Jan. 31, when she was dropped off at her home in Tucson after having dinner with her daughter, Annie Guthrie, and son-in-law.
Her family has said the missing woman has a pacemaker and is in desperate need of life-saving medication.
