Jill Zarin just fumbled a bag.
The Real Housewives of New York City alum has been fired from a newly announced E! reality show titled The Golden Life after going on a racially-charged tirade about Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show.
Blink49 Studios, the production company behind the upcoming show, announced Zarin was dropped from the cast on Tuesday, Feb. 10, in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
“In light of recent public comments made by Jill Zarin, Blink49 Studios has decided not to move forward with her involvement in The Golden Life,” the statement read. “We remain committed to delivering the series in line with our company standards and values.”
E! announced the show on Feb. 3, saying it will follow original RHONY star Zarin, along with OG show alums Luann de Lesseps, Ramona Singer, Kelly Bensimon, and Sonja Morgan as they reunite to soak up the sun in Palm Beach, Florida.
Fast forward to Sunday, Feb. 8. After Puerto Rican rapper-singer Bad Bunny ended his halftime set, Zarin went off on social media.
In a since-deleted video posted to Instagram, she called the set “the worst halftime show ever,” and slammed the Grammy winner for performing in Spanish. Before Zarin deleted the post, multiple content creators grabbed the video, reposted it, and it went viral. [You can watch the reposted video here].
“It was the worst halftime show ever. It’s 250 years that we’re celebrating right now in the United States, and I just don’t think it was appropriate to have it in Spanish, and quite frankly, I didn’t need to see him grabbing his, you know, G-area [groin],” said Zarin. “I think it was totally inappropriate. You’ve got all these young kids watching the Super Bowl, and he doesn’t have to be grabbing himself every five seconds. Is he so insecure?”
She complained that there were “no white people” on stage with Bad Bunny.
“Seriously. I didn’t understand. I don’t speak Spanish, I would’ve liked to have known the words he was saying. To me, it looked like a political statement, because there were literally no white people in the entire thing. I think it was a political statement, and I’m not taking a side one way or the other. I just do, I think it was an ICE thing. And I just think that the NFL sold out and it’s very sad,” she said. “Shame. Shame.”
Bad Bunny did welcome singers Ricky Martin and Lady Gaga (who is white) to perform during the set. But Zarin said she had a problem with Gaga’s physical appearance.
“Lady Gaga got a facelift. I didn’t recognize her. I literally had to Google her face to see who it was,” she said.
The stars of RHONY are known for being outspoken. Bravo fired the entire cast after season 13 ended in 2021, following conflicts involving race and religion.
Zarin was not on the show at the time when Eboni K. Williams, the only Black housewife on the show, got into a dispute with other cast members. In response, Ramona Singer reportedly said about Williams, “This is why we shouldn’t have Black people on the show.”
After dumping the cast, Bravo rebooted the show with a new group of women in 2022.
