A new TLC documentary series premiering this week explores claims surrounding Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby.
The three-part docuseries titled The Cult of the Real Housewife investigates allegations that Mary and husband Robert Cosby Sr. are “running a cult.”
The two lead Faith Temple Pentecostal Church, which has been mired in controversy. The series takes viewers inside the church, which was founded by Mary’s grandmother, the late Rosemary “Mama” Cosby.
According to TLC, the series looks into allegations that Mary and Robert extorted money from members of the church. There are also claims of extramarital affairs.
The series includes interviews with former congregants, members of Mary’s family, a cult expert, investigative journalists, and bloggers who have been reporting on the church.
Mary’s sister, Denise Jefferson Odinaka, also addresses the reality star’s marriage to her step grandfather.
“He was saying that God was telling him to marry my sister, the next thing you know, she’s in his house and they’re doing God knows what,” her sister says in the series.
Per the official description, the series “pulls back the salacious headlines and social media takes to dive deeper and unpack one of the most enduring mysteries at the core of the scandal: how have Mary and Robert Cosby Sr. managed to avoid accountability for so long?”
Mary was an original member of the RHOSLC cast when the reality series premiered on Bravo in 2020.
During a panel at BravoCon in November 2025, she said claims made in the upcoming TLC docuseries are false.
“I think it’s sad and a shame. It’s horrible. That’s what I think and it’s not true,” she said to applause.
The Cult of the Real Housewife is directed and produced by Elli Hakami and Julian P. Hobbs, the team behind TLC’s Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed.
The series premieres Thursday, Jan. 1 from 8-11PM ET/PT on TLC. All episodes will be available to stream the next day on HBO Max and Discovery+.
