Rapper Scarface says he is now undergoing dialysis after the coronavirus caused his kidneys to fail.
The Geto Boys member gave an update on his health during a Zoom call with hip-hop personality Willie D. In the video posted last week on YouTube, Scarface said he’s “glad to be alive.”
“You know that first conversation we had, I relapsed. I fought COVID double bilateral pneumonia — both lungs — and kidney failure in my house,” Scarface said. “I went back to the hospital. I just got out of the hospital Monday.”

The Houston rapper, born Brad Jordan, said the virus has taken a toll on his health.
“I gotta change my entire diet. I gotta do dialysis four days a week, three hours a day. That’s taking all my blood out, cleaning it and putting it back in my body,” he explained.
The hip-hop star added that he lost “probably 30 pounds” as he battles the virus.
Scarface said he never had kidney problems before coming down with COVID-19. Now he feels awful.
“I couldn’t keep food down, I couldn’t get comfortable, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t stay woke, I could not breathe. It was the worst time of my life,” he explained. “Hanging on that string of death makes you really appreciate life,” Scarface said.
In a March 26 interview with Willie D., Scarface said the illness started out as a scratchy throat. As things got worse, he went to an emergency room. Eventually his kidneys began to fail.
He urged fans to take the virus seriously.
“Don’t play no games with it,” he warned. “I haven’t been nowhere. I’ve been in my house. I ain’t been on no planes, I ain’t been in no restaurants… People out there thinking this shit is a game? You don’t want to play with this.”
