Retired NBA star Dwyane Wade’s daughter Zaya walked her first red carpet since the family announced the 12 year old identifies as transgender.

Zaya was accompanied by Wade and stepmother Gabrielle Union at the Sixth Annual Truth Awards Saturday night in Los Angeles, honoring contributions of the black LGBTQ community and their allies.

The Wade family presented Netflix’s Styling Hollywood stars Jason Bolden and Adair Curtis with the Business Leadership Award.

“It was important for Zaya’s first red carpet to be with her community,” Union said about Zaya, who was born a male named Zion.

Added Wade, “Jason and Adair were the first people we called to discuss Zaya coming out to us and they’ve helped guide us through the process.”

Jason and Adair are married fashion and home stylists to the stars. Other attendees included Angelica Ross (Pose); Simone Missick (All Rise), Renee Lawless (Tyler Perry’s The Haves and The Have Nots), CNN contributor Keith Boykin; writer-producer Ben Cory Jones (Boomerang); and Ellen show contributor Kalen Allen.

Hosted by Better Brothers Los Angeles (BBLA) in association with Sheryl Lee Ralph and her DIVA Foundation, The Truth Awards provide funding for educational scholarships for youth in the LGBTQ community.
