Yara Shahidi to Host ‘Zoom Where It Happens’ Table Read of ‘A Different World’

The final “Zoom Where It Happens” table read will be hosted by Black-ish star Yara Shahidi.

The episode will reimagine the hit sitcom A Different World, with talent including, Tessa Thompson, Storm Reid, Kelly McCreary, Oswin Benjamin and rapper Lil Yachty.

Thompson will play Kinu, McCreary will portray Whitley, Reid will play Freddie and Jaleesa, Allen will play Adele, Benjamin will assume the role of Dwayne Wayne, and Lil Yachty will appear as Ron.

In partnership with Zoom, the live table read series is presented by Black women artists to raise awareness around voting rights. With early voting in full-swing and the election coming up on Nov. 3, the Zoom project will conclude with the Tuesday, Oct. 27 installment.

The event will be directed by Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe winner Debbie Allen, who was also the in-house director for the original series.

A Different World ran from 1987 to 1993. It was originally planned as a spinoff for Lisa Bonet who reprised her role on the series as Denise Huxtable from The Cosby Show.

The“Zoom Where It Happens” series kicked off on Sept. 8, with a virtual table read of The Golden Girls, featuring Tracee Ellis Ross, Regina King, Alfre Woodard and Sanaa Lathan.

The A Different World installment of “Zoom Where It Happens” will debut on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET. You can RSVP to watch the virtual show here.
