Sunny Hostin Calls Fox News’ January 6 Hearing Coverage ‘Despicable’

Sunny Hostin Discusses January 6 Hear on The View (ABC)

The morning after the primetime January 6 committee hearing delivered new revelations and previously unseen video of the U.S. Capitol insurrection, The View hosts reflected on the testimony and the way the media covered it.

The ladies praised committee Vice Chair Liz Cheney, one of two Republicans on the House panel, for her handling of the Thursday night hearing.

“I’m not a Liz Cheney fan, but I found her so compelling last night. I found her to really be, she has one mission, and that is Donald Trump never be anywhere near the halls of power ever, ever again,” Sunny Hostin said.

The hearing was carried live across the broadcast networks, along with CNN and MSNBC. But Fox News instead aired its regular primetime lineup of Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, and Sean Hannity.

Joy Behar blasted Fox for refusing to air the hearing.

“Here’s a bulletin. Fox News did not carry the January 6 live hearings last night. Shocker! Isn’t it? But they still had plenty to say about it. The usual suspects, Tucker and Ingraham, dusted off their greatest hits, calling it a witch hunt,” Behar said.

She noted there were no commercial breaks on Carlson and Ingraham’s shows.

“What does that tell you? That Rupert Murdoch is so desperate to keep his viewers away from the hearing, along with those two, that he is willing to lose millions of dollars. People should pay attention to that,” she said.

Hostin chimed in by saying she watched the hearing and Fox News simultaneously, by placing her TV and computer side-by-side. She was outraged by what she saw on the cable news network.

“Tucker Carlson said a couple of things. He said the Capitol attack was a ‘forgettably minor incident of violence,’ which was so despicable and disgusting, more so than he usually is,” she said. “He also claimed that the attack was not an insurrection. He downplayed the role of white supremacists. He said that not a single person in the crowd that day was found to be carrying a firearm, when we know that court documents show that there were firearms.”
