Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry is ready to take a shot at movies and TV.

The NBA star has scored a game-changing production deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the company announced on Monday, April 23.

Curry, 30, recently formed a production company called Unanimous Media with partners Jeron Smith and Erick Peyton. The company will produce film and TV projects with a focus on faith and family-friendly content.

“I’ve been blessed to have this platform and I want to use it to affect the world positively,” Curry said in a statement Monday to the Hollywood Reporter. “Partnering with Sony to share inspiring content with a global audience was a foregone conclusion.”

The production company will be headquartered on the Sony Pictures studio lot in Culver City, Calif. Sony executives have described the collaboration as a big win.

“Steph is a transcendent figure in current culture. His wide-ranging content creation interests overlap well with our varied businesses and we have been equally impressed with his team,” Tom Rothman, Chairman, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group said in a statement. “We are honored to have been drafted and now we know how lucky Golden State feels every day.”

“We’re thrilled to work alongside Steph to bring his positive, affirming brand to create content in the scripted and non-scripted television landscape,” added Chris Parnell, co-president Sony Pictures Television.

Curry joins a growing list of NBA stars who have made the transition to Hollywood.

Former Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant won an Oscar earlier this year for his animated short Dear Basketball. Bryant is also writing, hosting and producing a basketball analysis show titled Detail for ESPN.

And LeBron James’ company SpringHill Entertainment has a production deal with Warner Bros. for projects in television, film and original digital content, including documentaries and a remake of the hit 1990 film House Party.
