Spike Lee, Alfonso Cuarón Among Directors Guild Nominees

The Directors Guild of America has announced its five nominees for outstanding directorial achievement in feature film, with BlacKkKlansman director Spike Lee and Roma director Alfonso Cuarón making the cut.

This is Lee’s first DGA Award nomination, the guild said in a statement Tuesday. It’s Cuarón’s second feature film nomination. He won in 2013 for Gravity.

The other nominees in the category this year are A Star is Born director Bradley Cooper, Peter Farrelly for Green Book, and Adam McKay for Dick Cheney biopic Vice.

Among the directors of awards season favorites left off the list were Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, Yorgos Lanthimos for The Favourite and Barry Jenkins for If Beale Street Could Talk.

Cooper also received a second nomination in the best directorial debut category along with Boots Riley for Sorry to Bother You, Bo Burnham for Eighth Grade, Carlos Lopez Estrada for Blindspotting, and Matthew Heineman for A Private War.

The winners will be announced at the 71st Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 in Hollywood.
