‘SNL’ Pays Tribute to Late President George H.W. Bush

Saturday Night Live fondly remembered former President George H.W. Bush, who died Friday at age 94.

At the end of the Dec. 1 Weekend Update segment,  hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost paid tribute to the nation’s 41st president.

“Friday night, former President George H.W. Bush passed away. He was 94 years old. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends,” Che said.

“That’s right. President Bush was famously a very warm and gracious man who always understood the power in being able to laugh at yourself ,” Jost added, before introducing a video tribute to Bush.

The clip featured SNL alum Dana Carvey’s impersonation of Bush, followed by footage of the then-president lightheartedly offering a critique of Carvey’s work.

“Dana, George Bush here. I’m watching you do your impression of me, and I gotta say it’s nothing like me,” Bush quipped in the clip. “It’s bad, it’s bad.”

In a statement released by his son, former President George W. Bush, the family described him “as a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for.”

George Herbert Walker Bush was born on June 12, 1924.

His wife, Barbara, died in April. The two had been married for 73 years at the time of her death.

On Wednesday, a memorial service will be held for the late president at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., at 11 a.m. ET.
