Boyz II Men performed a tribute to the nation’s moms this weekend on the season 45 finale of Saturday Night Live.

Before the group performed their hit single “A Song for Mama,” they were introduced as the episode’s musical guest by Michael Che.

“On behalf of SNL, we’d like to send a very special happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers that can’t be with their children this year, and all of the mother’s that we’ve lost. We love you, we miss you, and thank you,” Che said.

As Babyface accompanied Boyz II Men remotely by guitar, Nathan, Wanya and Shawn performed the 1997 ballad remotely from their homes. The performance was intercut with photos of the SNL cast members with their moms.

Babyface wrote and produced “A Song for Mama,” which appeared on the Boyz II Men album Evolution and was featured on the soundtrack for the 1997 film Soul Food.

Earlier in the day, Babyface posted a video tribute on Instagram to late music mogul Andre Harrell, who passed away this week. Babyface sang a song, and said he wrote it for his “dear friend” Andre.

After Babyface and Boyz II Men performed on SNL, former cast member Tina Fey returned to the “Weekend Update” with a message for mothers. She joked about baking cookies without flour during the quarantine, and trying to teach her kids subjects she knows nothing about while schools are closed.

Fellow Saturday Night Live alum Kristin Wiig served as host of the episode, which included cameos by Martin Short and Danny Trejo.

This was the third “At Home” installment of the NBC sketch comedy series since the coronavirus outbreak began.
