The queen is coming back.
USA Network announced Monday Queen of the South has been renewed for a fourth season. The news comes after the crime drama’s explosive third season concluded on Sept. 13.
Based on the book La Reina del Sur, the series follows former cartel money counter Teresa Mendoza, who fled Mexico for the U.S. after a failed drug hit.
This past season, Teresa struck out on her own and began to build a drug empire in Phoenix. As her enemies closed in, she realized her ascent to the throne would be marked by bloodshed and betrayals.

The series stars Alice Braga as Teresa. Veronica Falcón plays her rival Camila Vargas, while Peter Gadiot and Hemky Madera round out the main cast.
Fan favorites Joaquim de Almeida, who co-starred as cartel kingpin Epifanio Vargas, and Jon-Michael Ecker who portrayed Guero, were both killed off. Although the two frequently appear in flashback segments.

Queen of the South averaged 2.1 million total viewers in season 3.
When the series from Fox 21 Television Studios and Universal Cable Productions returns, there will be changes at the top.
Natalie Chaidez, who served as executive producer and showrunner for the past two seasons, has moved on.
Chaidez will be replaced by Dailyn Rodriguez and Ben Lobato, who have been promoted to co-showrunners.
Queen of the South will return with all new episodes in 2019.
