Michelle Obama and Oprah to Discuss Friendship and Family in Netflix’s ‘The Light We Carry’ Special

Maintaining a “real marriage” takes work, Michelle Obama tells Oprah Winfrey in the trailer for the Netflix documentary special, The Light We Carry: Michelle Obama & Oprah Winfrey.

The two friends sat down for a wide-ranging conversation during Obama’s “The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times” book tour. The interview was recorded on the final stop of the tour.

Netflix released the trailer on Thursday, which show’s Obama saying marriage isn’t easy.

“We have to be honest about real marriage and the work that it takes to build a life with another person,” she says in the video.

The former first lady also discusses aging, finding self confidence, and leaving some friends behind when she joined her husband, former President Barack Obama, in the White House.

The 80-minute special comes from the Obamas’ Higher Ground Productions and Jesse Collins Entertainment.

Linda Mendoza directs. Producers include Tonia Davis and Ethan Lewis. Executive producers are Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannáe Rouzan-Clay.

The Light We Carry: Michelle Obama & Oprah Winfrey begins streaming April 25 on Netflix.
