Since his breakout performance in Fruitvale Station, a 2013 drama about the fatal police shooting of Oscar Grant, Michael B. Jordan says a script on almost “every historical black figure has come across my desk.”
Unfortunately, the actor said he’s had to turn down many of those projects.
“As much as I would love to play all of them, I can’t,” he explained.
Jordan was speaking at the 2019 Produced By conference Saturday in Burbank, according to The Wrap.

During a panel discussion titled “Content With a Conscience: Social Impact Entertainment Across All Platforms,” the actor talked about producing his own content, and making projects that are both socially-conscious and entertaining through his Outlier Society production company.
“We try to balance that as much as you can, to run a company where it’s not its entire identity,” Jordan told the audience of Producers Guild of America members. “But, at the same time it’s as an important silo and something that we care about.”
Jordan’s performance in Fruitvale Station helped propel the film, from writer-director Ryan Coogler, to a string of critics awards. Since then, the actor and the filmmaker have teamed up on other successful projects, including Creed and Black Panther.
