Mary J. Blige Lands Lead Role in Horror Thriller ‘Body Cam’

Mary J. Blige has signed on to star in Body Cam, a horror thriller that’s being described as a mix between Get Out and End of Watch.

The film is a Paramount Players production, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Players is a division of Paramount Pictures launched in 2017 to focus on “contemporary talent and properties for young audiences.”

Malik Vitthal (Imperial Dreams) will direct, with Matt Kaplan producing.

Body Cam focuses on a group of LAPD officers who are haunted by a spirit after the murder of a black youth at the hands of two white cops. The murder was caught on body cam video that was destroyed in a cover-up. Blige will play a police officer investigating the cover-up.

The Grammy-winning R&B singer, popularly called the “queen of hip hop soul,” is known for such hit songs as Real Love, Family Affair and No More Drama.

She appeared in the 2017 war drama Mudbound, which earned her Academy Award nominations in the best supporting actress and best original song categories.

She also has a role in the upcoming Netflix series The Umbrella Academy.
