There’s a change at the helm of LeBron James’ upcoming Space Jam sequel.
Previously announced director Terence Nance has exited Space Jam 2 and Malcolm D. Lee is taking over.
According to Deadline, which broke the story, Nance had a different creative vision for the film than the producers and his departure was amicable.
Lee’s credits include Girls Trip, Night School, The Best Man franchise and Barbershop: The Next Cut.
The live action-animation hybrid, will star James and Don Cheadle, whose participation was just recently announced.
The Warner Bros. film is a follow-up to the 1996 hit that starred Michael Jordan, NBA legends and Looney Tunes animated characters.
Producers on the sequel include Ryan Coogler, Duncan Henderson, James and Maverick Carter for their SpringHill Entertainment banner.
Space Jam 2 opens July 16, 2021.
