There’s a new sketch comedy series coming to late-night TV, and this one features black women.
HBO on Sunday dropped the trailer for A Black Lady Sketch Show, a new half-hour series created by comedian Robin Thede, most recently of BET’s The Rundown.
The trailer shows Thede cutting up with co-stars Ashley Nicole Black (Full Frontal With Samantha Bee), Gabrielle Dennis (Luke Cage, The Bobby Brown Story) and Quinta Brunson (iZombie).
Created, written by and starring Thede, the series will feature narrative sketches performed by a core cast.
Each week the cast will be joined by celebrity guests, including Angela Bassett, David Alan Grier, Laverne Cox, Tia Mowry, Lena Waithe, Aja Naomi King, Patti Labelle, Loretta Devine, Gina Torres, Marsai Martin, Yvette Nicole Brown, Kelly Rowland and Larry Wilmore.
Thede will additionally executive produce with Issa Rae, Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry, Tony Hernandez and Brooke Posch. Deniese Davis, Montrel McKay produce for Issa Rae Productions and John Skidmore produces for JAX Media.
A Black Lady Sketch Show premieres Friday, Aug. 2 at 11p.m./10c.
