Crazy Rich Asians topped the box office for a second straight weekend after earning an estimated $25 million in ticket sales. But the crazy thing is, the romantic comedy brought in almost as much as it did last weekend, when it debuted with $26.5 million.
The film’s six percent decline in ticket sales is unheard of for a summer release, where a fifty percent second-week drop is considered normal.
“There’s no greater indicator of the enthusiasm of an audience than a minimal drop in a second weekend,” Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for comScore told The Associated Press.

Since it arrived in theaters on Weds., Aug. 15, the Warner Bros. comedy has earned $76.8 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
While Crazy Rich Asians continues to generate box office heat, moviegoers gave Melissa McCarthy’s The Happytime Murders the cold shoulder.
The raunchy comedy about a serial killer in Los Angeles targeting washed-up puppets from a Sesame Street–type show, landed with a thud.

Despite having a supporting cast that includes Maya Rudolph, Elizabeth Banks and Joel McHale, the comedy was pretty much dead on arrival, taking in just $10 million dollars from 3,256 theaters.
The STX film’s dismal debut put it in third place after The Meg, which brought in another $13 million.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout held onto fourth place with $8 million. Disney’s Christopher Robin was fifth with $6.3 million.
