Crazy Rich Asians is shaping up to make a serious statement at the box office.

The Warner Bros. romantic comedy is on pace to rake in $5.3 million on Wednesday alone, according to Variety.

The film follows native New Yorker Rachel as she travels to Singapore with longtime boyfriend, Nick, for his best friend’s wedding. Once they get there, Rachel finds out Nick is crazy rich and one of Singapore’s most eligible bachelors.

The rom-com is the first Asian-led studio film to arrive in North American theaters since The Joy Luck Club in 1993.

The film has an impressive 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of Wednesday afternoon.

Crazy Rich Asians is opening in 3,300 theaters. Box Office Mojo projects it could earn up to $25 million over the weekend, and log a five-day haul in the $35 million range.

The film will face Warner Bros. holdover The Meg, Mark Wahlberg’s action thriller Mile 22, and the Albert Hughes-directed family film Alpha.
