Anthony Scaramucci’s plot twist on Celebrity Big Brother is rubbing some people the wrong way.
Shortly after the former White House communications director left the show six days into the competition, he announced that he was never actually a cast member.
The shocking revelation came to light during Friday night’s first live elimination, with “the Mooch” suddenly appearing on a television screen in the Celebrity Big Brother house to deliver a message.
“Surprise! I’m actually not a Big Brother houseguest, but I am part of a Big Brother twist,” he told his roommates as he sat in front of an American flag backdrop. “Just like I left my mark in Washington, I’m going to leave my mark on the Big Brother game.”
The political consultant added, “First off, from this moment on, I’m out of the house. That means you’re all one step closer to the quarter-million dollar prize. The Big Brother house is just like my experience in Washington; you get judged quickly before people know who you really are — and you don’t get a second chance. So I’m giving the current nominees a second chance at safety.”

Mooch was originally up for elimination alongside comedian Tom Green and actor Jonathan Bennett. But given his exit, the financier-entrepreneur instructed Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte to pick another person to add to the evictee group. Lochte chose Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss because their personalities don’t “mesh.”
Many fans weren’t thrilled about the twist, with some arguing that they didn’t buy Scaramucci’s story.
“Lol at the Mooch ‘twist,'” someone tweeted. “Cover up for a quit.”

Another person chimed in: “The Mooch quit and I’ll have to be shown some really, really convincing evidence to convince me otherwise.”

In addition to the fan backlash, the Celebrity Big Brother house was rife with drama. After Kato Kaelin won the veto challenge, he nominated Green to stay.
Mean Girls star Bennett was ultimately sent home. He responded to his exit on Twitter with a nod to the new Ariana Grande song, tweeting: “Thank U, Next.”
