‘Black Panther’ Reaches New Box-Office Milestone

Black Panther (Disney Marvel)

Black Panther has been out on Blu-ray and DVD since May, yet devoted fans are still going to see the film on the big screen.

This weekend, the Ryan Coogler directed Wakanda adventure reached a new milestone, becoming only the third movie in history to gross over $700 million at the domestic box office. It joins J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936 million) and James Cameron’s Avatar ($760 million) in the elite club.

The superhero saga starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and Letitia Wright arrived in theaters on February 16, and is now playing in just 25 locations.

It rang up another $35,000 in ticket sales at those two dozen theaters this weekend, bringing its 25-week domestic total to $700,004,026.

When you factor in international ticket sales, Black Panther has grossed a staggering $1.3 billion worldwide.

The film was released on Blu-ray and DVD on May 15.
