The BET Awards are this weekend.
But before you sit down to watch BET’s 19th annual celebration of African-American achievement in music, movies and sports, there are a few things you need to know.
When and Where Are the Awards?
The awards take place Sunday, June 23, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The show will air live at 8 p.m. ET/PT across seven Viacom-owned channels, including BET, BET HER, MTV, MTV 2, MTV Classic, VH1, and Logo.
You can also stream the awards on bet.com, but you’ll need a cable/satellite provider login. In the off chance you don’t have access to cable/satellite, you can follow the action on Twitter as the @BETAwards account posts live updates.
Who’s Hosting?
Actress and comedian Regina Hall will serve as this year’s host. Fans know Hall for her roles in Girls Trip, The Hate U Give and the new installment of Shaft. She also has a role in Showtime’s Black Monday. Hall is a frequent presenter at the BET Awards, but this is her first time hosting.
Who’s Performing?
Whether you prefer hip-hop, R&B or gospel, there’s something for everyone. Over the past few days, BET Networks announced the addition of Meek Mill, Fantasia, DaBaby, Jeremih, Kirk Franklin, Erica Campbell, Kelly Price, Jonathan McReynolds and James Funk of Rare Essence to the lineup of performers.
They join previously announced performers, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Migos, H.E.R., Lizzo, Mustard, Lil Baby, City Girls, Lucky Daye and Kiana Ledé will also be taking the stage.
In addition to these performances, there will be a musical tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle, featuring DJ Khaled, YG, and John Legend.
Who’s Being Honored?
Along with the musical tribute, BET will honor Nipsey Hussle with a posthumous Humanitarian Award. Meanwhile, Mary J. Blige will receive BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and Tyler Perry will pick up the Ultimate Icon Award. Instagram activist and Pan-African developer, Chakabars, is set to receive the International Global Good Award.
Who’s Nominated?
