Al Roker continues to keep Today viewers updated on the nation’s weather forecast, even as he self-isolates.
One day after it was announced that Roker and Craig Melvin were absent because a staffer who works on the third hour of Today tested positive for coronavirus, the weathercaster returned to the air Tuesday morning.
He used an iPad and laptop set up in his kitchen, and said no NBC staffers were there to help him as he hunkers down at home. The Today website says he’ll be out at least 15 days.
“I didn’t have to commute in, so I did sleep in,” Roker told Today co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb. “Want to make sure there are no NBC News crews here. This is my iPad (filming)… so we’ve kind of jerry-rigged this system, and I’ve got all my graphics and everything I need.”
Roker also shared pictures on Instagram of the Today team who helped make the transmission possible.
“Part of the team getting yours truly on the air with @todayshow weather @3rdhourtoday,” he wrote on Instagram. “Thanks to Don Tshounikas in his home, @kathrynprociv is in @30rockefellerplaza and @brianvanaken at home.”
