Al Roker and Craig Melvin were absent from the Today show Monday after a staffer on the third hour of the NBC morning news program tested positive for coronavirus.

Anchors Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb made the announcement, telling viewers Roker and Melvin will be off the air at least for one day as a precaution.

Guthrie and Kotb also said they were practicing social distancing and sitting apart from each other to be careful.

“On a personal note for this show, last night we learned that a colleague of ours on the third hour of Today has tested positive for COVID-19, the novel coronavirus,” Guthrie said. “So out of an abundance of caution, Craig and Al have taken the morning off so we can trace their contacts and see what’s going on with them. We promise to keep you posted. Both are fine right now. They feel good.”

After the announcement, Roker took to Twitter with an update.

“Feeling fine. Don’t worry about us. Thinking about our colleagues and all those who are really suffering. And God Bless the health care providers and #FirstResponders helping,” he tweeted.
