Gillings wrote and directed the series, which is currently being shopped and does not yet have a home at a network or streaming platform.
Paper Empire was purchased by Hannibal Pictures at EFM (European Film Market) earlier this year.
The series follows a financial fraudster who uses his “Digital Limbo” cryptocurrency blockchain technology to make a fortune and swindle unsuspecting investors.
Gooding plays CIA director Zackery Becker. The series also stars Wesley Snipes, Denise Richards, Steve Guttenberg, Richard Grieco, Helena Mattsson, Robert Knepper and Anne Archer.
The project is executive produced by Michael Tadross Jr., Bernard Salzman, David Ruggieri, Edward Pershing and Randy King.
The timing of the announcement is curious considering Gooding is in the midst of a legal battle after being accused of inappropriate touching by three different women at three different Manhattan nightclubs between 2018 and 2019.
As previously reported, the Oscar-winning actor’s criminal trial is set to begin on Feb. 1, 2022. Gooding has maintained he is innocent. The Jerry Maguire star is also accused of raping a woman in 2013 in a separate lawsuit.
