Gregg Leakes, who rose to national prominence while appearing on the Real Housewives of Atlanta with his wife NeNe Leakes, has died after battling colon cancer. He was 66.

A representative for the family confirmed his passing on Wednesday.

“Today the Leakes family is in deep pain with a broken heart. After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes has passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones and wife Nene Leakes,” publicist and family friend Ernest Dukes said in a statement. “We ask that you pray for peace and strength over their family & allow them to mourn in private during this very very difficult time.”

News of Gregg’s death came just days after NeNe spoke candidly about her husband’s final days battling cancer. On Saturday Aug. 29, she was recorded telling patrons at her lounge The Linnethia in Duluth, Georgia, that Gregg didn’t have much time left.

“My husband is transitioning to the other side,” NeNe said in a viral video obtained by It’s OnSite

Over the weekend, NeNe posted an image on Instagram of the word “broken.” She included praying hands and broken heart emojis.

Following Gregg’s death, some of NeNe’s former RHOA castmates shared their condolences on social media.

“My prayers go out to @neneleakes & her family. @greggleakes was an amazing man who always brought love & great energy to any room he walked into. I’m thankful for the great memories I have of him. Rest in peace Gregg,” Kandi Burruss wrote on Instagram.

“My heart is truly broken for @neneleakes my sincere condolences to you, Brent and you’re entire family. Thank you Gregg for letting me be the 3rd wheel many nights,” added Marlo Hampton on Instagram. “Rest In Peace Gregg. Such a good man, always so sweet and kind to me. You held your family down like no other.”

While Porsha Williams posted on Instagram, “Truly heartbreaking news. Love and prayers for dear Nene & the Leakes family.”

Gregg was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in 2018. He went into remission, but two years later the cancer returned.

The couple first married in 1997. They divorced in 2011 and remarried again in 2013. The two have a son named Brentt together, they also both have children from previous relationships.
