Quindon Tarver Dies: ‘Romeo + Juliet’ Actor Was 38

Quindon Tarver, a singer who had a role in the film Romeo + Juliet has died. He was 38.

“He had an accident—all we know is he had a wreck, crashed into a wall somewhere on George Bush [Turnpike],” Tarver’s uncle Willie Tarver told the Daily Beast on Sunday.

Tarver landed his breakout role as a choirboy in Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes.

Tarver was also known for his covers of the songs “Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)” and “When Doves Cry.”

His versions of the singles were featured on the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack, which sold over 2 million copies.

Tarver later released a debut album and also contributed to other soundtracks throughout his career. His latest single “Stand Our Ground” was released in October as a protest against police brutality.

The artist captioned a post about the single on Instagram: “Stand Our Ground” is an anthem for African-Americans of the present and the future. From Martin Luther King Jr, and Malcolm X, to the Black Lives Matter movement, the fight for justice and equality has gone on for too long.”

He added, “#Quindon hopes this song will touch the hearts of all people to help create a thriving society based on equality, appreciation for others, and acceptance that we all have a place in this world.”
