Niecy Nash got real about her marriage to new “hersband” Jessica Betts, Wednesday on the season 4 premiere of Red Table Talk.

Nash’s marriage with Betts made headlines and surprised fans when the two tied the knot last August.

After some shared laughs with the actress and RTT co-hosts Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris, Jada Pinkett Smith asked Nash how she knew she was ready to make this change in her life.

“I met the most beautiful soul I had ever met in my entire life,” Nash explained. “It was something that said ‘I don’t want to be away from this energy.’”

The Reno 911 and Claws star also shared that Betts was the first woman she had ever been with. “I’ve dated men all my life, married a couple of them. But this was the first time in my life I felt fully seen, and it changed me,” Nash revealed.

She was later joined in the intimate interview by Betts. With her new wife by her side, Nash explained why she felt trapped in her first marriage to Pastor Don Nash.

She said she thought at the time, “‘I feel like I’m doing a slow dance with death. I gotta get out of here.’ I know a lot of people who say I stayed for my children. But I left for my children. Because I wanted them to see what real love looked like.”

After discussing why she left her two marriages to her former husbands, Nash said she wasn’t looking for anything in particular when she met Betts. Meanwhile, Betts noted that Nash was hesitant at first.

“She was very reluctant. I was chasing her,” Betts said with a laugh. Nash also said she doesn’t like using sexual orientation labels or the term “coming out.”

“If I had to label myself in this moment, I would label myself with the term ‘free.’”

Nash said she had been friends with Betts for over four years. The actress made it clear that she never cheated on her second husband with her new partner.

“People think that we were in a relationship while I was still married, which is a lie. I don’t know what camera is on me, all of y’all over there—it’s a lie. She was in a long-term relationship too. So we both were with our people for 10 years.”

New episodes of Red Table Talk drop Wednesdays at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET on Facebook Watch.
