Issa Rae Signs Eight-Figure Deal with WarnerMedia

Issa Rae has inked a multimillion-dollar deal to continue developing and producing new projects for WarnerMedia over the next five years.

The entertainment conglomerate announced the exclusive deal with the executive producer and star of Insecure on Wednesday. The agreement extends to “all forms of television, to include HBO, HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television, and a first-look for features with Warner Bros. Pictures Group, New Line and HBO Max,” WarnerMedia said in a press release.

Variety reports sources told the outlet the deal is worth about $40 million over five years.

Rae expressed her enthusiasm about creating content for WarnerMedia through her production company, Hoorae.

“I’m thrilled to not only spread my creative wings with the network that makes all of my favorite series, but also to produce culturally resonant stories with new voices that incite exciting conversations via Hoorae’s expanded relationship with all WarnerMedia platforms,” she said.

Casey Bloys, chief content officer for HBO and HBO Max, added about Rae: “Insecure was a breakthrough series for HBO, and there is much more on the horizon. This new deal is an opportunity to leverage the strength of WarnerMedia to provide a multitude of platforms for Issa’s formidable talents as a producer and storyteller.”

The Insecure co-creator is already busy at work with her previously announced HBO and HBO Max projects. The fifth and final season Insecure is currently in production and the second season of A Black Lady Sketch Show will be premiering on April 23.

As previously announced, Rae is also developing a half hour comedy series titled Rap Sh-t.
