Dave Chappelle Tests Positive for COVID-19 and Cancels Comedy Shows

Dave Chappelle

Dave Chappelle is in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19.

The comedian got back a positive test just before a scheduled comedy show on Thursday in Austin, Texas. A rep for Chappelle said the comedian had no symptoms.

“Dave Chappelle is quarantined after testing positive for COVID-19. His remaining shows at Stubbs Waller Creek Amphitheater in Austin, TX have been canceled and ticket holders should contact their point of purchase for refunds,” the rep said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

Chappelle had been performing shows in Ohio over the past several months, but moved the performances to Texas after the weather in the Midwest turned cold. As a precaution, the comedian and his team were tested daily for the virus and audience members were given rapid tests.

“Chappelle has safely conducted socially-distanced shows in Ohio since June 2020, and he moved those shows to Austin during the winter,” the rep said. “Chappelle implemented COVID-19 protocols which included rapid testing for the audience and daily testing for himself and his team. His diligent testing enabled him to immediately respond by quarantining, thus mitigating the spread of the virus. Chappelle is asymptomatic.”

Comedian Joe Rogan was booked to appear alongside Chappelle at the shows on Friday and Saturday. He apologized on Instagram to fans after the shows were canceled.

“Sorry my friends, the Friday and Saturday shows at @stubbsaustin have been cancelled,” he wrote. “We’ll reschedule them as soon as we can. Much love to you all.”
