Chadwick Boseman is being remembered by the Hollywood community, after he passed away Friday following a long battle with colon cancer. The 43-year-old actor had been sick for four years, his family said in a statement, yet he continued to persevere and work while undergoing cancer treatments.

Boseman got his start in Hollywood with small roles on television. He would later pivot to film and played African American icons Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall and James Brown. He gained a new legion of fans in 2018, when he starred in the title role of the Marvel superhero film Black Panther.

As news of his death spread, the Hollywood community — including fellow Black Panther cast members — shared touching tributes. Angela Bassett, who played Boseman’s mother in Black Panther, posted several pictures of the two together on Instagram, along with a broken heart emoji.

Sterling K. Brown, who played N’Jobu in the film, also remembered his former co-star.

“I don’t have words. Rest In Peace, Bruh. Thank you for all you did while you were here. Thank you for being a friend. You are loved. You will be missed,” Brown tweeted.

Other Marvel stars, including Don Cheadle and Chris Evans, also posted condolences.

“I will miss you, birthday brother. You were always light and love to me. My god … forever and ever,” Cheadle tweeted.

“I’m absolutely devastated. This is beyond heartbreaking,” Chris Evans wrote on Twitter. “Chadwick was special. A true original. He was a deeply committed and constantly curious artist. He had so much amazing work still left to create. I’m endlessly grateful for our friendship. Rest in power, King.”

A message posted on the Marvel Entertainment Twitter account said: “Our hearts are broken and our thoughts are with Chadwick Boseman’s family. Your legacy will live on forever. Rest In Peace.”

Octavia Spencer, who co-starred with Boseman in Get On Up, remembered him on Instagram, writing: “We’ve lost a great one. My heart is truly broken.”

“Chadwick…..no words to express my devastation of losing you,” tweeted Viola Davis, who appears alongside Boseman in the upcoming film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. “It was an honor working beside you, getting to know you….Rest well prince…May flights of angels sing thee to thy heavenly rest. I love you!”
