The website described the situation as a “serious illness,” but reps for the rapper said it is not COVID-19.

Biz Markie, who is known for the classic hits “Just A Friend” and “Vapors,” is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Maryland.

The 56-year-old New York native has been open about his battle with diabetes. In a 2013 interview with the New York Daily News, he said he dropped 140 pounds by changing his diet, exercising and cutting back on sugar.

“I walk. I do the treadmill, I walk around the mall,” he said. “I do little crunches with my stomach, not that much.”
