Kanye West made several jaw-dropping comments, even by Kanye West standards, in his first public event since declaring his run for the White House.

The rapper and entrepreneur disparaged abolitionist Harriet Tubman at a campaign rally Sunday in Charleston, South Carolina. He also got very personal while talking about abortion, and began to scream through tears after revealing that he wanted wife Kim Kardashian West to abort their first child.

The hip-hop star delivered his remarks at the Exquis Event Center while wearing a bulletproof vest with “security” written on the front of it, and he had “2020” shaved into his hair.

On Harriet Tubman. Videos posted on social media showed West saying Harriet Tubman “never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.” His comments were initially met with silence, then shouts from the crowd.

Tubman was born a slave in 1800s Maryland and escaped North to freedom after a perilous journey. Over her lifetime, she helped hundreds of other enslaved African Americans reach freedom via the Underground Railroad. She is considered an American hero.

On Abortion. West said he was enjoying the “rapper’s lifestyle,” and wasn’t ready to be a dad when his wife got pregnant with their daughter, North West, according to The Guardian.

“And I called my wife and she said, we’re gonna have this baby. I said we’re gonna have this child … So even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world when I didn’t want to. She stood up and she protected that child,” he stated.

West began to cry while talking about his late mother, and said his father wanted her to have an abortion when she became pregnant with him.

“My mom saved my life. My dad wanted to abort me. My mom saved my life. There would have been no Kanye West because my dad was too busy,” he explained through tears. West then put his head in his hand and cried, “I almost killed my daughter! I almost killed my daughter!”

The rapper said he believes abortion should be legal, but women should be given financial incentives to discourage the procedure.

“My stance is not to make abortion illegal at all,” he said. “But there should be an option of maximum increase available … Maximum increase would be, everybody that has a baby gets a million dollars.”

West announced he was running for president on July 4, as part of the new “Birthday Party.” Although he missed the deadline to get his name on the ballot in several states.

In an interview with Forbes magazine earlier this month, he insisted his campaign isn’t a publicity stunt. West also told the interviewer he had never voted before in his life.
