Music entertainment manager Deb Antney thinks VH1 reality show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta makes African Americans look bad, especially women.

Antney is the mother of rapper Waka Flocka and a manager who helped artists like Nicki Minaj and Gucci Mane launch their careers.

She’s a reality TV veteran, and also appeared on WE-TV’s Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta, and WE-TV’s new series Waka and Tammy: What the Flocka earlier this year.

But all is not what it appears on the Atlanta-based reality show, according to Antney. She spoke out against the portrayal of women on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta without holding back.

“It’s very disgraceful for women,” she recently told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The mom and manager said, when she saw how her son and daughter-in-law argued and clashed on the show, it “destroyed the inside of me,” adding, “I could not function.”

Antney first appeared on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta beginning in 2012 for seasons one and two as a mentor to some of the women on the series. She then came back in season three as a supporting cast member following the death of her son, Kayo Redd where she chronicled his life and became an advocate for suicide prevention. She also continued to make appearances in seasons four, five and six offering advice to her son and his family.

She said cast members are given a very short amount of time to show who they are as people in challenging relationships, while navigating the music business.

“It makes our men look horrible. I’m just not here for it,” she said. “I’m not for the drama like that.”

She believes the show’s producers manipulate cast members to make them look bad, explaining, “We went through so much on that show.”

However, she hasn’t completely closed the door to reality TV, saying there are some shows that allow reality stars to be genuine.
