Kobe Bryant Hosts LA Community Screening of ‘Just Mercy’ (Photos)

Kobe Bryant showed his support for Just Mercy this week at a community screening of the film in Baldwin Hills.

The very casually dressed NBA legend and TV personality Terrence J hosted the special screening on Jan. 6, for guild members, awards voters and journalists in the Los Angeles area.

Also attending were cast members Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, Brie Larson, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Karan Kendrick, and civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson. While these types of star-powered screenings are a regular occurrence in Beverly Hills and Hollywood throughout awards season, they’re not that common in Baldwin Hills.

Just Mercy follows the true story of Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), a black man wrongly convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of a white woman in rural Alabama.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the critically acclaimed drama is based on Stevenson’s bestselling memoir by the same name. The Warner Bros. release is currently playing in select cities and goes nationwide on Friday, Jan. 10.
