When the Grammy nominations were announced Wednesday morning, Nipsey Hussle scored three posthumous nods.

Hussle, real name Ermias Asghedom, was shot and killed in Los Angeles on March 31, 2019. He was 33 years old.

A gunman approached Hussle and opened fire after a brief verbal exchange outside the rapper’s Marathon Clothing store. Two other men were injured in the shooting before the shooter fled.

The LAPD used surveillance video and social media posts from witnesses to identify the suspected gunman as 29-year-old Eric Holder.

Holder was arrested and charged with one count of murder, two counts each of attempted murder and assault with a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. He pleaded not guilty.

Hussle was remembered at a memorial attended by thousands of people at the Staples Center — the same venue where the Grammys are held — on April 11. The late rapper was also honored in June during a star-studded tribute at the BET Awards.
