The highly-anticipated sequel to Black Panther will land in theaters on May 6, 2022.

Ryan Coogler, who returns to write and direct the follow-up, made the announcement Saturday at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif.

After being introduced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Coogler took center stage.

“We’re really trying to get it right,” the director said.

The film currently has a working title of Black Panther II, but Coogler remained mum about plot details.

Black Panther caused a frenzy at the box office when it was released in February 2018, and became the top grossing domestic film of the year with $700 million in ticket sales. The movie was also a huge hit overseas, and earned a total of $1.3 billion worldwide.

The Wakanda saga was the first superhero film to be nominated for a best picture Academy Award. The blockbuster picked up a total of seven noms, and won Oscars for original score, costume design and production design.
