Janelle Monáe is taking over the lead role for the second season of Amazon’s Homecoming.

Julia Roberts starred in the first season of the drama series, but had a one-year contract and will not be returning to the cast. Roberts will remain involved as an executive producer in the thriller from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, Variety reported Tuesday.

The first season, based on Gimlet Media’s Homecoming podcast, focused on Heidi Bergman (Roberts), a caseworker at the Homecoming Transitional Support Center, helping soldiers transition back to civilian life.

Monáe’s character is described as a tenacious woman who finds herself floating in a canoe with no memory of who she is or how she got there.

Homecoming is executive produced by Esmail and Chad Hamilton. The podcast’s Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg also executive produce, along with Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg, Matt Lieber and Roberts through her production company Red Om Films.

Monáe, a eight-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter, recently had roles in Moonlight and Hidden Figures. She’ll next be seen in the Focus Features drama Harriet, about abolitionist Harriet Tubman. She also has a role in the upcoming live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp.
