Trevor Noah Compares Trump’s Tariff Deal to Recycled Hollywood Reboot

President Trump said he used his art of the deal to reach an 11th hour agreement with Mexico to avoid tariffs over illegal immigration.

But not everyone is buying what the president is selling, including Daily Show host Trevor Noah, who offered POTUS a bit of advice.

“You never get into a Mexican standoff with actual Mexicans,” Noah quipped Monday night. “It’s too risky.”

Last week Trump threatened to impose a 5 percent tariff on all Mexican goods unless Mexico agreed to clamp down on asylum seekers by June 10.

With the deadline quickly approaching, Trump took to Twitter Friday to say a deal had been reached.

“I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended,” Trump tweeted. “Mexico, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border.”

But there was just one problem. The New York Times reported Saturday that Mexico agreed to take border actions months before Trump announced his supposed new deal.

Noah compared the president’s deal making to a recycled Hollywood reboot — more of the same.

“Who cares if Trump is taking an old deal and pretending it’s new,” Noah joked. “It’s what Hollywood has been doing for years, Aladdin, Pet Sematary, Dumbo. It always works.

Stephen Colbert wasn’t impressed with Trump’s negotiating tactics either and called POTUS a “maniac.”

“So, the threats of tariffs, the negotiations, the deal itself were all fake,” the Late Show host said. “It was like some sort of theatre. In this case, the lying king.”

Colbert suggested Trump take his sideshow to Broadway.
