NBC Cancels Morris Chestnut’s ‘The Enemy Within’ And Two More Shows

The Enemy Within won’t be returning for a second season.

NBC canceled the freshman drama this week, along with The Village and Abby’s, according to Variety. All three shows were only on the air for one season.

The Enemy Within starred Morris Chestnut and Jennifer Carpenter. The psychological thriller centered on FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut) who enlists notorious traitor, Erica Shepherd (Carpenter), to help catch a spy.

Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, Noah Mills and Sophia Gennusa rounded out the main cast.

The series averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.4 million live viewers.

The Village revolved around the residents of a New York City apartment building who bonded and developed relationships like family. It starred Lorraine Toussaint, Frankie Faison, Warren Christie, Michaela McManus, Jerod Haynes, Dominic Chianese, Daren Kagasoff, Grace Van Dien, and Moran Atias.

The drama averaged a 0.66 demo rating and 4.1 million viewers.

NBC also pulled the plug on Abby’s, a half-hour comedy about a woman who ran a bar in her backyard.

The sitcom starred Natalie Morales in the lead role, along with Nelson Franklin, Jessica Chaffin, Neil Flynn, Leonard Ouzts, and Kimia Behpoornia.

The low-rated comedy averaged a 0.42 demo rating and 1.7 million viewers.
