MTV will no longer honor Jason Mitchell at the upcoming MTV Movie & TV Awards.
Mitchell, who received a “Best Performance in a Show” nomination for his work on Showtime’s The Chi, had his nomination pulled amid misconduct claims.
“In light of recent developments, we have removed Jason Mitchell as a nominee,” an MTV spokesperson told Variety Wednesday.
MTV first announced the category’s nominees on May 14, just days before Mitchell was dropped from The Chi due to multiple allegations of misconduct and inappropriate behavior on set.
As Urban Hollywood 411 previously reported, Tiffany Boone , who played the actor’s on-screen girlfriend, Jerrika, was one of “several actresses on the series who had issues with Mitchell.”
Boone ultimately asked to be released from the show, while Mitchell (Brandon) remained until his firing this month.
Since Mitchell’s termination, Season 2 showrunner Ayanna Floyd has come forward to allege that “everyone was well aware” of issues surrounding the actor and that she had her own personal experiences with his “rage.” The veteran producer claimed that The Chi‘s creator and executive producer, Lena Waithe, was aware of complaints about the actor and “informed” her of Mitchell’s alleged actions.
“When I took the helm in season two, it was Lena who informed me of the issues between Jason Mitchell and Tiffany Boone from season one, and that Tiffany was thinking of leaving the show because of it,” Floyd told The Hollywood Reporter. “As a result of this information, I discussed Tiffany’s claims with the studio’s HR department and set up HR presentations for the writers, cast and crew.”
Floyd will not return for season 3 of the show.
Shortly before losing his job on The Chi, Mitchel was let go from the Netflix film Desperados in April, following an investigation into an unspecified off-set incident. Mitchell’s agent and talent manager also recently parted ways with the actor, but they have yet to explain why.
The MTV Movie & TV Awards will air on June 17 at 9 p.m. EST.
