The ratings for Beyoncé’s Homecoming are finally in, and it looks like Netflix has another winner on its hands.
The singer’s self-directed film on her historic 2018 Coachella performance, aka “Beychella,” snagged an impressive 1.1 million U.S. viewers for its April 17 premiere, according to Nielsen.
Mobile devices and computers weren’t included in the final ratings — only internet connected televisions — so it’s possible the numbers were higher than what was reported.
As for the demographics, 63 percent of viewers who watched Beyoncé’s homage to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were African American, while 70 percent were female.
Additionally, viewership was 55 percent African-American within the first seven days of Homecoming‘s release — “higher than any other original streaming series or film tracked by Nielsen to date,” according to Variety.
While impressive, these aren’t the highest numbers for recent Netflix originals. The Sandra Bullock-fronted Bird Box (3.5 million viewers) and Will Smith’s Bright (5.4 million) scored higher premiere day tallies, according to Nielsen.
Still, Homecoming was a major force on social media, with the premiere generating 757,000 interactions across Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter throughout the first week.
This isn’t the last time Beyoncé will pull out all of the stops for Netflix — Homecoming is the first installment of a three-part $60 million deal she signed with the streaming giant in April.
